225 conscripts and 302 volunteers of the Korean Marine Corps were screened with Zung¢¥s Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) in order to evaluate and to compare their anxiety.
SAS raw scores were converted to SAS Indices by Zung¢¥s method.
Mean SAS Indices and score of 20 anxiety¢¥ items obtained from both groups were statistically analyzed and compared.
The results were as follows;
1., The mean SAS Indices were 44.32¡¾8.65 for the conscripts and 46.03¡¾11.53 for the volunteers. The difference of the mean SAS Indices between two groups was not statistically significant (t=1.95<1.96 : p=.05).
2. Among various anxiety items, there were statistically significant differences in item No. 9 (restlessness), No. 11 (dizziness) and No. 17 (sweating). In case of item No. 9, there was highger level of anxiety among the conscripts. However, in cases of No. 11 & No. 17, there were higher level of anxiety among the volunteers.
